The idea in brief.
A platform can expose thousands of records while leaving a lender uncertain about what happened financially. Identity, settlement grouping, corrections and source timing determine whether those records can support a decision. This guide explains the platform evidence contract for an Amlok implementation: how permitted records become ready assessment inputs, how changes remain traceable, and how to measure reconciliation quality before claiming downstream lending benefits.
- Keep platform, merchant, customer, payment and settlement identifiers distinct.
- Measure reconciliation by both count and financial value.
- Track missing updates and corrected versions without counting unchanged records twice.
A practical implementation guide grounded in Amlok’s documented product scope and segment research. Market figures retain their original population and period. Worked examples are invented, reproducible scenarios. They do not represent customer results, underwriting cutoffs or claims of validated model performance.
The market and the decision.
Payments Canada reports 26.7 billion Canadian payment transactions worth CAD 12.9 trillion in 2025. These market-scale totals are context for the diversity of financial activity; they are not records processed by Amlok or a platform-quality benchmark. [1]
For integration quality, more records are not automatically better evidence. A batch can contain many payments, one payment can have several versions, and an identifier may change between providers. The platform needs explicit relationships and timestamps so reviewers can distinguish a financial event from its representation in different systems.

What Amlok brings to the workflow.
Amlok’s shared infrastructure supports authorized connections, consent, evidence uploads, normalized reads and result access. Insights consumes ready input manifests for a full underwriting workflow, while Signal uses approved baselines and newly available evidence for monitoring. API categories organize those capabilities; they are not additional standalone products. [2] [3]
A platform implementation should make source scope and data meaning clear before an assessment begins. That includes supported resource types, history windows, stable identifiers, correction handling and explicit missingness. The commercial goal is a dependable evidence interface for the financing partner, with fewer ambiguous handoffs, without claiming that every upstream event arrives instantly.
Connect the evidence that matters.
Agree the evidence perimeter before asking for an assessment. Each record needs a subject, source, observation date, currency where applicable, and coverage window. Resolve conflicting statements explicitly; the most recently uploaded file is not necessarily the most recent financial position. [3]
| Evidence | What it supports | Review requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Source and merchant identities | Which entity, connection and resource produced a record | Retain provider identifiers and supported cross-system links. |
| Payments, settlements and bank receipts | The chain from activity to cash | Support many-to-one batches and preserve unmatched differences. |
| Event and observation timestamps | Economic timing, availability and ingestion delay | Do not collapse them into one generic updated-at field. |
| Record versions and corrections | What changed and what remains the same event | Avoid duplicated economic activity on replay or refresh. |
| Consent and coverage metadata | Authorized resources, periods and connection state | Make disconnection or expired authorization visible to assessment users. |
Measures your team can review.
Use the definitions below as an assessment specification. Your institution selects policy thresholds and permitted adjustments. These measures are useful only when their inputs, time periods and contractual meanings align. [4]
- Count coverage: matched eligible events divided by all eligible events under a declared matching definition.
- Value coverage: matched eligible value divided by total eligible value for the same cohort.
- False-merge rate: distinct economic events incorrectly linked as one.
- Freshness: source-to-availability and availability-to-observation delay measured separately.
- Continuity: missing updates, replay handling and completeness after a connection recovers.
Worked example: 95% of records can cover only 60% of value.
In an illustrative cohort of 1,000 settlement records worth CAD 1 million, 950 records are correctly matched. Those 950 represent CAD 600,000. The remaining 50 represent CAD 400,000, so count coverage is 95% while value coverage is only 60%.
The unmatched records are larger on average and could matter disproportionately to a credit assessment. Neither metric should replace the other. Add a false-merge review as well: a high matching percentage is harmful if unrelated receipts were forced together to achieve it.
| Measure | Matched | Total | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Record count | 950 | 1,000 | 95% |
| Value · CAD | 600,000 | 1,000,000 | 60% |
| Unmatched record count | 50 | 1,000 | 5% |
| Unmatched value · CAD | 400,000 | 1,000,000 | 40% |
Keep the original decision in view.
A platform change can affect evidence availability without changing the borrower. Signal monitoring needs the approved baseline and a comparable new view. Preserve a correction’s meaning and avoid treating a replayed unchanged version as new economic activity.
Refresh cadence depends on provider capability and authorization. Track missing updates, connection recovery and changes in supported resource coverage. An institution should be able to tell whether a financial signal reflects actual activity, a delayed batch or a provider outage before deciding on a response. [3]
From evidence to a reviewable change
- 01Declare the source contract
Define identities, resources, permissions and periods.
- 02Normalize with lineage
Preserve events, versions, timestamps and relationships.
- 03Release ready evidence
Expose coverage and unresolved reconciliation explicitly.
- 04Monitor continuity
Explain new financial evidence and source-quality changes.
Build it into your operating model.
Start with one defined use case, your current decision policy and the output your reviewers need. Confirm which source connections, document types, calculations and verification stages are available within the agreed workflow. Create the subject and application, obtain the required authorization, synchronize permitted records and inspect the ready input manifest. Freeze that evidence window before launching an Insights underwriting run. [3]
Store the completed risk snapshot with the lender’s actual decision and its reasons. For ongoing monitoring, use a ready approved baseline from the completed assessment or the agreed existing-portfolio onboarding process. Signal compares newly available evidence with that baseline. Signed webhooks notify your systems; source cadence and consent determine freshness. A requested daily check does not guarantee daily source data. [3]
Design separate routes for a supported risk change, a source outage and an unresolved discrepancy. Retain source references and reviewer corrections. Borrower outreach, payments, limit changes, collections and insurance administration remain in your authorized systems. Verification and analytical investigation are included stages within an entitled Insights or Signal workflow, not independent Amlok products. [2]
Prove the fit before expanding.
Construct adjudicated event chains across platform, processor and bank sources. Test duplicate deliveries, partial batches, late refunds and corrected records. Report false merges separately from missed links because their financial effects differ. [4]
Hold out merchants and time periods, and test recovery from feed interruptions. Measure count and value coverage before evaluating downstream underwriting. Accurate normalization is necessary evidence infrastructure; it is not by itself proof of predictive credit performance.
Agree success criteria before reviewing the test results. Compare the current process and the Amlok-supported process on the same permitted evidence, recording analyst time, corrections, unresolved cases and completed outputs. Report coverage alongside speed so incomplete files cannot make the workflow appear faster. Monitor quality by source availability and relevant customer cohorts, with uncertainty where samples are small.
Amlok’s public results currently document specific structured-loan and financial-evidence retrieval experiments. Those results are useful evidence about those tasks; they do not validate every product, institution or industry in this guide. A deployment claim needs a representative evaluation of your use case. [5]
- Scope: choose one product, one decision moment, required evidence and a clearly accountable reviewer.
- Replay: use dated historical snapshots with later outcomes kept out of the input evidence.
- Shadow: compare outputs alongside your existing process before relying on them operationally.
- Expand: review quality, data continuity and monitoring relevance before adding further cohorts or sources.
