Cash-flow intelligence

Understand the cash.
Explain the capacity.

Turn authorized banking, payment, commerce, and accounting records into a financial view your team can inspect. Reconcile the movement before measuring income, liquidity, and repayment capacity.

THE QUESTION BEHIND THE WORKFLOW

A deposit is a movement. Its meaning needs context.

Sales, transfers, borrowed funds, refunds, and settlements can all appear in cash records. Assess the economic activity behind them so the resulting measures reflect a defined question, period, and evidence set.

Reconcile first

Connect source records representing the same economic event before counting receipts or obligations.

Define the measure

Make the currency, period, denominator, and treatment of exclusions explicit for every calculation.

Keep unknowns visible

Incomplete accounts, unresolved inflows, and missing liabilities are evidence gaps, not zero values.

EXPLORE THE EVIDENCE

A clearer view of
the question at hand.

Switch between practical examples to see the observation, supporting records, and questions that matter before reaching a conclusion.

ILLUSTRATIVE EVIDENCE REVIEW

Not every dollar arriving is operating income.

A fictional business has CAD 120,000 of monthly inflows: CAD 80,000 in supported operating receipts, CAD 25,000 in evidenced own-account transfers, and CAD 15,000 in financing proceeds.

Questions for the review
  • Retain the evidence supporting each exclusion.
  • Do not classify unresolved deposits as income by default.
  • Check account and channel coverage before comparing periods.

BUILD THE PICTURE

Bring the right evidence
into the same context.

Agree the sources, permissions, observation window, and required output for your product. Keep coverage limitations attached to the analysis.

Banking & payments

Account activity, balances, processor payouts, refunds, reserves, and payment evidence where authorized.

Commerce & accounting

Orders, invoices, financial statements, receivables, and payables that help explain the activity behind cash movement.

Obligations & agreements

Lender-supplied schedules and permitted liability evidence to distinguish payment observations from contractual commitments.

Source availability depends on the connection and authorized scope. A missing record is not evidence that the underlying activity or obligation does not exist.

A DEFINED PATH THROUGH THE ANALYSIS

From a starting question
to a reviewable finding.

  1. 01

    Prepare

Define the subject, period, currency, and evidence coverage.

  2. 02

    Reconcile

Connect deposits, payouts, transfers, and source records without counting the same event twice.

  3. 03

    Calculate

Apply the agreed eligibility rules and deterministic formulas to supported inputs.

  4. 04

    Explain

Return the measures with contributing evidence, exclusions, missing inputs, and context for review.

The workflow supports your institution’s process. Agree responsibilities, output requirements, and review boundaries before connecting it to operational actions.

BUILT FOR THE PEOPLE DOING THE REVIEW

A financial measure your team can question.

Useful cash-flow intelligence goes beyond a category label. Preserve what was counted, what was excluded, and which gaps could change the interpretation.

Business lenders

Assess cash generation across SMB, commercial, and merchant-finance workflows without confusing financing proceeds with revenue.

Consumer lenders

Review income, commitments, and monthly buffers using definitions appropriate to personal, auto, mortgage, or other credit.

Portfolio & specialty finance

Compare supported financial changes over time and examine the cash implications of receivable or payment delays.

Questions worth
working through.

Explore API
Is cash flow the same as accounting profit?

No. Cash movement and accrual accounting measure different things. Bank outflows alone do not establish EBITDA, and a cash-flow coverage proxy is not interchangeable with a covenant’s contractual DSCR definition.

How are transfers and loan proceeds treated?

Supported own-account transfers, financing proceeds, reversals, and duplicate economic events should be excluded from operating receipts according to the agreed definition, while retaining their source evidence.

What if debt or account data is missing?

The limitation remains explicit. No observed debt payment in connected accounts does not prove there is no debt. A ratio without a supported denominator is unavailable rather than invented.

Can the analysis cover consumer and business lending?

Yes, the workflow should be configured for the product. Household net income and essential expenses differ from business operating receipts and outflows. Evaluate each within its own evidence and policy definitions.

Can I explore a change in receipts or costs?

The risk simulation page provides transparent fictional sensitivity examples. Discuss the scenario method and delivery scope for your actual workflow with Amlok.
